In case you missed it: As of February 28, 2025, SQL Server 2019 is no longer in mainstream support. That means no more functional updates or performance improvements – just security patches. If you’re still running SQL Server 2019, here’s what you need to keep in mind.
What does this mean for you?
No need to panic – your SQL Server 2019 will keep running, but:
- Security patches only: Bugs or performance issues? No more fixes.
- Extended support runs until 2030: You have some time, but an upgrade should be on your roadmap.
- Want new features? You’ll need an upgrade – SQL Server 2022 is available, and SQL Server 2025 is in preview.
My advice: Start planning early
Upgrading might not be your favorite task, but planning ahead pays off. The next SQL Server version will bring some exciting new features – including deeper AI integration and optimized performance. Need help with your upgrade strategy? Let’s talk! 😉
